Being a teen is a lot. Figuring out who you are, where you belong, and how to deal with stress, school, friends, and family is overwhleming for all of us. For LGBTQ+ teens, those pressures can be even heavier — especially when the government actively seeks to deny your existence or write you off as anomalies.
That’s where The Trevor Project comes in.
First started in the late 90's by activists who wrote the film Trevor, the Trevor Project is a national organization focused on supporting LGBTQ+ young people, especially during moments of crisis. Their services are free, confidential, and designed with teens in mind.
🌈 TrevorLifeline (Call)
📞 1-866-488-7386 | Available 24/7
The TrevorLifeline connects teens with trained counselors who understand LGBTQ+ experiences. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or be in a “worst-case” situation — you can call if you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsafe, or just need someone to listen.
💬 TrevorText (Text)
📱 Text “START” to 678678
Not comfortable talking on the phone? TrevorText lets you text with a counselor in real time. This is especially helpful for teens who feel anxious about calling or need quiet support.
💻 TrevorChat (Online Chat)
If texting or calling doesn’t feel right, TrevorChat offers online messaging through a browser. You can chat privately with a counselor from your phone or computer.
🧠 TrevorSpace (Online Community)
TrevorSpace is a moderated online community for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13–24. It’s a place to connect with other teens who get what you’re going through, share experiences, and feel less alone — all with safety rules in place.
📚 Resources & Education
The Trevor Project also offers:
Articles about mental health, identity, and coming out
Guides for coping with stress, anxiety, and tough situations
Information for friends, parents, and educators who want to support LGBTQ+ teens better
These resources are written in clear, supportive language and don’t assume everyone’s experience is the same.
💛 Why This Matters
You don’t have to be “in crisis” to reach out to The Trevor Project. Their message is simple: you deserve support, and you deserve to be here.
If you’re an LGBTQ+ teen — or questioning, or just unsure — The Trevor Project offers multiple ways to get help on your own terms.
And if you’re ever worried about a friend, sharing Trevor’s resources can be a powerful way to show you care.
